The South Florida Water Management District handed out $500 fines to 81 golf courses that failed to report how many gallons they were using. This affects half of the 176 golf courses that have irrigation permits from Palm Beach County to the Florida Keys.
The fines were a result of water restrictions that went into effect March 22 that required golf courses to submit weekly reports on the district’s Web site to show they are reducing water use by 15 percent. Recently the reduction amount was increased to 30 percent.
I have revised a Google map showing other Watercrunch developments due to the drought in South Florida. See Map.
