Hurricane Hugo Remembered

Like airplanes approaching a congested airport, hurricanes seem to be lining up in the Atlantic threatening the Southeast. I tried to think about this morning about the first hurricane that made an impression on me. Without a doubt, it was Hurricane Hugo which hit South Carolina over twenty years ago.

This Category 5 hurricane struck Guadeloupe, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, South Carolina and North Carolina in September of 1989, killing 82 people. The storm caused $10 billion dollars in damages, making it the most damaging hurricane at that time.
